UH-Hilo baseball enters Top 25 in Div. II ranking

The University of Hawaii at Hilo baseball team has officially entered the Top 25 Division II Rankings with a 7-1 start to the season.

The Vulcans have come in at No. 25 in the latest National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association NCAA Division II Poll released on Wednesday.

UH-Hilo, who received 38 points, won their first two series against previously-ranked Augustana and Northwest Nazarene this month.

Reigning National Champion North Greenville is No. 1 with national runner-up and fellow Pacific West Conference mate Point Loma Nazarene at No. 4.

Eleven previously-ranked teams from the preseason poll dropped out of the top 25 poll including Augustana and PacWest-foe Azusa Pacific.

In the West Region rankings, the Vulcans totaled 85 points to come in at No. 4 behind Point Loma Nazarene, Cal Poly Pomona and CSU San Bernardino in order.

PacWest members Azusa Pacific and Fresno Pacific are at No. 5 and No. 8, respectively.

UH-Hilo will begin PacWest play with a home series against Concordia, which will feature two doubleheaders on Friday, Feb. 24 and Saturday, Feb. 25.
